Battle of the dishes | Gannett News Service
This graphic let people vote for their favorite Thanksgiving food choices. To make their selection, they'd use the mouse to maneuver a plate under the food they wanted to eat.
A trash can would then sprout legs and arms, walk over and devour the food that wasn't chosen. After the animation, the graphic would show current vote taly for each food. At the end of the five survey choices, consumers would see a submission form to register for a daily drawing of a Butterball turkey.
Voting statistics and drawing submissions were stored in a MySQL database. PHP was used to provide XML web service integration between the graphic and the database.
Graphic elements, including the trash can and food photography, were contributed by colleagues from the graphics and photo departments of Gannett News Service.
