Preparing for Poynter:
Don'ts, Dos, and Maybes
- Don't freak out about housing. It's easy to get once you arrive, and you may want to wait til you know what your beat is.
- Don't pack tons of office supplies. Get them for free once you arrive, courtesy of Poynter.
- Do accept the offer to do the fellowship, even if you get other good offers. You'll probably get better training, make better connections and have more fun at Poynter. Ask others offering internships if they can schedule around the fellowship -- some will let you.
- Do e-mail other fellows and get to know them a bit before you arrive.
- Maybe check out pointssouth.net to see what other fellows have done.
- Maybe read the St. Pete Times at sptimes.com.
- Maybe do the chicken dance and run around the neighborhood naked because you're psyched and are going to have lots of fun.
