Ellis Island | NYC JAN + FEB 2003   A ferry wisks visitors away from Manhattan. Ground Zero is behind the two towers at the left. The bunks in my hostel were a little more comfy. While dining in the exorbitantly priced Ellis Island cafeteria, I asked for a glass of water and got a tiny cup full of ice. They refused to give me a second cup, but later let me have a refill. Ironically, exhibits throughout Ellis Island told stories about immigrants getting shafted by shady contractors working at the island.
